ALEX in January

Every now and then we are going to have a little chat with someone we think is interesting for what he or she does. First we introduce Alex.

ALEX ESTADIEU is a designer working in design management and product design for AED (his own company).  Alex is from Southern France but has lived in Finland since 2002.

A project Alex did when he was still studying. 

´Cupts´ sushi bowls Alex designed in collaboration with Jeremiah Tesolin.

Alex was involved in the design project of the Nokia store in Sao Paolo as well as many other stores.

Alex´s design takes shape at the factory. It´s a table for the ‘Coffee bean and Tea Leaf’ coffee shops in the US. This particular table will soon be fitted with the wireless charging system and end up in San Francisco. There´s more to come: a high table, a small one, a long one, etc.

MINDRE LOVES SUMMER..

New potatoes in Le Creuset cast iron pot. We shot this summer place two summers ago for Deko magazine. A TV series showed the whole building project at that time.

Tammikuu kääntyy tuota pikaa helmikuuksi. Kun kestämme siihen vielä pari hassua kuukautta päälle, voidaan oikeasti puhua keväästä. Eikä tämä vielä mitään: onhan vappuna satanut luntakin.
Mutta. Kevät on kesän aatto. Ja kesä on parasta.

Toivelistalla on päiviä, viikkoja, jolloin pelkkä T-paita riittää. Ja ensimmäiset uudet perunat. Haaveilemme myös MAJAsta. Sen on suunnitellut Minna Jones. Ihan kuin hänellä olisi ollut sama haave kuin meillä pienenä: ihan oma paikka, ikioma pesä. Vai olisiko niin, että se on kaikkien toive
- aina vaan?

January turns to February soon. Then the Spring is only a few months away. But it´s not the second best we´re longing for. We want the best. Nothing really compares to summer..

On our wishlist for summer we have days, even weeks when only a T-shirt is enough to wear. Add the taste of new potatoes to this. We also dream about MAJA. Designed by Minna Jones.
It´s like she would have had the same dream that we had as children: her very own place. Maybe it´s a dream we all have? No matter how old we are.      
   

MINDRE LOVES PURPLE AND GREY

The colour palette of a tiny hallway: purple, grey and white.

Pienissä, ylimääräisen tuntuisissa läpikulkutiloissa piilee haaste. Saisiko minitilan hyötykäyttöön? Vai onko paras vain suihkia joka päivä parin neliön läpi, sen enempiä miettimättä, ympärilleen katsomatta?
Tila voi myös olla kaksi askelta väriä. Sävyihin kietova vaippa, silmänruoka: hyötyä, jos mikä.
Kuvassa purppura mattaemulsio Farrow & Ball (seinät), kiiltävä harmaa Tikkurila (ovet). Valkoinen raikastaa paletin (jalkalistat).  

A tiny hallway is a challenge. How to make the space practical? Or is it just better to walk through, without looking around and thinking it so much?
Or could it simply be two, colour filled steps? Colours that make you feel good.
Purple matt emulsion from Farrow & Ball (walls), glossy grey From Tikkurila (doors). White freshens up the whole.

Viime viikon torstaina oli Ismo Kajanderin näyttelyn avajaiset Galerie Forsblomilla. Tämä näyttely jäi mieleen pyörimään. 

Thursday 10th of January we visited the vernissage of Ismo Kajander. The exhibition made a strong impact on us.

RECENT WORKS by MINDRE

Since 2008 we have been working with the Swedish magazine SKÖNA HEM.

 

Uusimmassa Sköna Hem -lehdessä on juttumme helsinkiläisestä kattohuoneistosta. Moderni design, antiikki + taide luovat tunnelman.
Sköna Hem / Bonnier julkaisee myös rinnakkaisia teemalehtiä. Yksi näistä on "Skapa stilen". Sen viimeisimmässä numerossa nimetään kuusi tämän hetken kiinnostavinta tyyliä, ja korostetaan persoonallisuutta yhteisenä nimittäjänä. Persoonallisuus ja vintage olivat avainsanat myös kuvaamassamme paikassa.   

The current issue of the Swedish interior magazine Sköna Hem features a penthouse in Helsinki, an article by Mindre. The key elements are modern design items and antique pieces, not to mention  art.
Bonnier also publishes regularly Sköna Hem special issues, one of them beeing "Skapa stilen, Create style". In the latest one they present six different most appealing styles right now. The magazine wants to highlight personality and vintage in every of them, and show one of the places we photographed.

..We stumbled into this charmig sofa during Salone 08 in Milan. Got excited about it and included it in our article of trends, it is a fresh approach with a hint of past.

MINDRE at work, end of September 2012

HYVÄ SUNNUNTAI sai meissä aikaan. Blog ja facebook silence kummastuttaa alinomaan tuttuja työssä ja vapaa-ajalla. On kysytty  - vaan ei vastattu. Pysähdyimme: omalta tuntuvista visuaalisista jutuista tuntuisi omalta tehdä merkintöjä. Ja tuli blog.
Kaksi visualistia (stalisti-kirjoittaja + valokuvaaja) on joskus yhtä kuin mielenhäiriöltä tuntuva kina pienestä detaljista. Tai sitten pakahtuminen onnesta, kun näkee jotain mieletöntä (tai kuva natsaa). Isot linjat, näkemyksemme ja makumme ovat kuitenkin harvinaisen yhteen solahtavia.
Blogisäännöllisyytemme, se tulee olemaan "epäsäännöllisen" säännöllistä...

THIS SUNDAY we finally start this blog. Why? Many people, friends and business contacts, wonder why we don´t have one. Untill we started to wonder our selves. And came up with that it actually feels quite natural to do notes about visual things, specially  when being two visualists - a photographer and a stylist-writer. And yes - it is sometimes frustrating to work together (when you know you´re absolutely right and she/he is not) but most of the time we love our work and what is more important: share a same taste. Frequency of our upcoming posts? There will be "irregular" regularity...
